Debunking School Closure Myths

Education officials from Chicago to Austin have used a variety of justifications to defend school closures, but most of these justifications don’t hold up to scrutiny when examining the data. Here is an infographic that summarizes what the evidence from past and current closures says.

  1. In CA, in rural districts, closing schools leads to Charter schools. I’ve seen costs to districts increase with a reduction of ‘rigor” for the same students because of changes in routine etc. The charters, at the same time have needed to cut corners and they do not have access to same resources that perhaps charters in affluent areas have. They have no corporate sponsors available. These charters were created because school districts tried to consolidate as cost cutting measures.
