A Move to SacTown in Song, This time it’s for REAL: A Playlist

Well I’m going out west where I belong.
I apologize for the thin posting on Cloaking Inequity the past two weeks. Summer is a busy time as I wrap up peer-reviewed articles, teach two methods classes for the new UT-Austin Superintendency cohort, personal and professional travel, conferences, etc. Avid readers of this blog may remember the post Julian Vasquez Heilig is leaving The University of Texas at Austin. I promise that today is not April 1. For my Twitter followers,LinkedIn connections, and Facebook friends the news that today I accepted an appointment as Full Professor and Director of the Educational Leadership at California State at Sacramento probably does not come as a surprise. California State offered a promotion to full, a leadership role, more professional and personal resources, and a greatly reduced teaching load compared to the #27 university in the world. I will sorely miss the students, faculty and community friends I have encountered here in Austin over the past 9 years. I will even miss the legislators and their dedicated staff. 🙂 I debated how I could creatively tell the story of my departure from the University of Texas at Austin. Well here is my attempt…
Well I’m going out west where I belong
Where the days are short and the nights are long
And I’ll walk a little walk I’ll twist a little twist
I’ll shimmy a little shimmy I’ll fly a little fly
Yea we’re out there having fun in the warm California sun
Its too old and cold and settled in its ways here…California I am coming home
California dreaming…
I’d like to lay my weary bones tonight. On a bed of California stars…
California here we come… Right back where we started from
Going back to Cali, stylin, profiling…Growlin, and smilin, while in the sun
(NSFW) Cali? No doubt baby. You know we gotta get this paper.
California – you’re so nice.. your paradise
(NSFW) Yeah, That’s riightWest coast, west coastUh, California Love
California Love
We’re sitting on a real celebration… Thank heavens what a fine situation… Shoot the cannon blow the horn
and finally. quirky, but perfect….
We need to get out of here
Not just any, anywhere
Gotta go where the sky is blue
That is what we’re gonna do
[:: CHORUS ::]
We’re going to California
(California)
We’re headed to the place where everyday is like a night out
(California)
Alright
Verse 2
We are getting out of here
Ain’t just going anywhere
Gotta go where the sky is blue
That is what we’re gonna do
[:: CHORUS ::]
We’re going to California
(California)
We’re heading for a place where everyday is like a night out
(California)
We’re heading for a place where everybody’s got a ?
(California)
Spread our wings and hope to fly, cross our hearts and hope to die
(California)
[Texas] gonna be alright
Verse 3
(California)
When all the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
(California)
We won’t just dream the Californian dream
We’ll live the Californian way
[:: CHORUS ::]
(California)
We’re heading for a place where everyday is like a night out
(California)
We’re heading for a place where everybody’s got a ???
(California)
Spread out wings and learn to fly, cross our hearts and hope to die
(California)
We’ll take it to the promised land, can we do it? Yes we can
